Back in the '90s he was on a very famous TV show...and in the 2010s he was on another very famous TV show called Bojack Horseman which produced many great characters, both human and animal. Despite its cartoon look, this show isn't just funny animal puns and jokes, it gets extremely deep. So we have some quality character arcs as well as silly, fun characters to choose from for our Power Rankings of the best characters from Bojack Horseman.
Character: Vincent Adultman
Bio: Definitely not three little boys stacked on top of each other, under a trench coat. Works hard at a Stock Market. Briefly dated Princess Carolyn.
Why We Love Them: Vincent is really good at doing a business. He is mature and has such a way with words. We wish he and Princess Carolyn could have made it, but for whatever reason, it wasn't meant to be. Bojack always seemed to hold a grudge against him for some reason, but Princess Carolyn saw Vincent for who he really was.
Best Moment:
Character: Tom Jumbo-Grumbo
Bio: News anchor on MSNBSea. Has an ex-wife named Shannon. Has been known to become frustrated with his co-worker Randy.
Why We Love Them: We have a whale of a time whenever Tom Jumbo-Grumbo is on screen narrating the news with his nuance of nature puns and notes for us to nibble on (Randy wrote this). The voice of Keith Olbermann helped make this character even more memorable as opposed to being a beached whale.
Best Moment:
Character: Character Actress Margo Martindale
Bio: She's Character Actress Margo Martindale. You know who she is. You've seen her great character work. She has several Primetime Emmy and Critics' Choice Television Awards. Nothing else needs to be said.
Why We Love Them: Just the right amount of random. That's what the great character actors and actresses can provide. You never could predict when Character Actress Margo Martindale (one must always refer to her by her full name and title) would show up or what she would do, but it was always a ride.
Best Moment:
Character: Sarah Lynn
Bio: Sarah Lynn was a child actress on Horsin' Around and then a pop singer. She quickly began abusing drugs as she got older and died from an overdose.
Why We Love Them: Sarah Lynn had a major influence on Bojack from their time working together when she was just a child actress. She brought us plenty of laughs, but it was sad to see the issues she had as an adult after knowing how adorable she was in Horsin' Around. Bojack rightfully felt plenty of guilt (eventually) about how she ended up.
Best Moment:
Character: Judah Mannowdog
Bio: Judah was Princess Carolyn's assistant at VIM before being promoted to Chief-of-Operations. He fell in love with Princess Carolyn from their time working together and the two went on to get married. Judah is also the lead singer and guitarist for the band Spectrum of Enchantment.
Why We Love Them: Judah is the dream assistant. Hard-working, knows exactly what you need, and can basically read your mind. Perhaps he just understood Princess Carolyn really well and that's a big reason why they ended up together. That, and he is the master of zen to balance out Princess Carolyn's 100MPH all the time personality.
Best Moment:
Character: Diane Nguyen
Bio: Diane is a writer who was hired by Pinky Penguin to help write Bojack Horseman's biography. She has also been a ghostwriter for celebrity tweets, but she usually tries to shed light on more noble causes. She was formerly married to Mr. Peanutbutter and is now married to Guy.
Why We Love Them: Diane tries SO HARD to be a good person and to do the right thing. Sometimes it's just so she can brag to people about how good of a person she is, but that's still better than not trying. Even if she can't make as big of an impact on global issues as she would like, she has made tremendous differences in the lives of those around her, especially Bojack. Diane is the character who had the most success getting through to Bojack and helping him attempt to change for the better.
Best Moment:
Character: Mr. Peanutbutter
Bio: Back in the '90s he was on a very famous TV show...called Mr. Peanutbutter's House, a rival sitcom to Horsin' Around. Mr. Peanutbutter is a Labrador Retriever. Former host of the game show Hollywoo Stars and Celebrities: What Do They Know? Do They Know Things?? Let's Find Out! Later in his career, he would go on to star in the hit show Birthday Dad.
Why We Love Them: Mr. Peanutbutter on a Bojack Horseman list? What is this, a crossover Power Rankings?! He is somewhat the opposite of Bojack in that he is overwhelmingly happy and positive, which Bojack always seems to despise him for, in addition to the days of his rivaling show, how great of shape he remains in, and his relationship with Diane. However, Mr. Peanutbutter is oblivious and naive and eventually comes to grips with his own issues in later seasons, but he is still a good boy.
Best Moment:
Character: Princess Carolyn
Bio: Princess Carolyn is an agent, manager, producer, and whatever else her clients need her to be. She has even started her own agency and production company. Has a daughter named Ruthie and is married to Judah.
Why We Love Them: In many ways, Princess Carolyn is the heart and soul of the show. She constantly takes it upon herself to keep everyone else's lives together, sometimes at the expense of her own hopes and dreams. Her journey was so enjoyable to watch as Princess Carolyn worked her way up to bigger and better careers and started putting more focus into her own goals, such as adopting Ruthie.
Best Moment:
Character: Bojack Horseman
Bio: Hates honeydew more than anything in the world (wanted to get that one out of the way first). Bojack Horseman is a horse who was a star in the '90s sitcom Horsin' Around. Following the success of Horsin' Around, Bojack got into heavy drinking and stopped taking care of himself. We learn that many of his self-loathing tendencies are the result of his embattled childhood with awful parents, Beatrice and Butterscotch Horseman. He attempts to write an autobiography, but then Diane Nguyen is hired to help him write it. Bojack eventually gets back into acting, inspired by the role of Secretariat, and even goes on to teach acting at Wesleyan University. He also has a half-sister, Hollyhock Manheim-Mannheim-Guerrero-Robinson-Zilberschlag-Hsung-Fonzerelli-McQuack. Oh, and he also stole the D from the Hollywood sign and now everyone calls it Hollywoo.
Why We Love Them: Do we love Bojack? Does anyone LOVE Bojack? Well, we know Bojack doesn't love Bojack. He can be a world-class self-centered jerk, but we sure went on a journey with this character. Bojack was more funny and entertaining in the early seasons, but we started to learn about the extent of his past and we then watched him continue to make many, many horrible mistakes. At times he showed potential and determination for growth, but always seemed to relapse back to his old ways. The end of the series leaves us with some hope for his remaining days, but do we trust it? We can say this talking horse who hates honeydew with a passion made us think way more than we thought we would.
Best Moment:
Character: Todd Chavez
Bio: Todd has lived with Bojack, Diane and Mr. Peanutbutter, and Princess Carolyn. He was often thought of as lazy before getting a place of his own with his girlfriend Maude. Todd has many ideas that he likes to share with others and has held many occupations such as a nanny for Princess Carolyn, CEO of Cabracadabra, CEO of Toothy Grin, and President for Ad Sales at WhatTimeIsItRightNow.com.
Why We Love Them: After starting off as Bojack's free-loading roommate, Todd really took a life of his own and endeared us with his heart and wacky ideas (Henry Fondle is our favorite). Also, it would be impossible to not love a character voiced by Aaron Paul. On top of being a lovable goofball, Todd gave us some deeper moments when he did some soul-searching and came out as asexual. HOORAY TODD!
